Bumgardner Attends OSU Drumline Camp
Percussion Camp at The Ohio State University was part of the off-season for MTSB snare drum squad leader Nick Bumgardner. Led by OSU Marching Band directors and staff, the camp was open to high school juniors and seniors, current OSUMB drumline members, and those students wishing to audition for the OSU band.
These intermediate and advanced percussion students spent a weekend on campus improving their fundamentals and learning the Ohio State drumline music. A concert for parents and family brought the camp to a close. Nick said it was “exciting to play OSU music on the field at Ohio Stadium.”
Bumgardner found working with the OSU staff, and playing with over one hundred percussionists from high school bands around the northeast United States to be both “challenging and a little humbling”. He said “current drumline members helped out and [OSU percussion instructor] Mark Reynolds worked with each of us on our technique.”
This is the first year that the OSU drumline has held a percussion camp, and Nick is looking forward to returning next year. “It was a great experience, and I learned a lot.”
