Matt Hersher named Outstanding Senior Boy
Matt Hersher was named Outstanding Senior Boy at the WHS Honors Ceremony on May 15.

Mr. Hersher has been a four-year member of the MTSB and has served as a squad leader and trumpet section leader. He was also a member of the Jazz Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Basketball Band, and Pit Orchestra. Next year, he will be attending The Ohio State University majoring in mathematics and education. Matt is the son of Liz and Dave Hersher.
The Outstanding Senior Boy award was added to complement the Miss Massillonian award, which was started in 1941. The awards are based on academic performance, leadership ability, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work. This year marks the first time that the award comes with a $1,000 scholarship for each recipient, provided by the Washington High School Alumni Association. Miss Massillonian for 2019 is Gabriella Findley.
In addition to Mr. Hersher, other Outstanding Senior Boy finalists from the instrumental music department were James Hardwick, Jr., Nathan Santucci, and Mitchel Paulus. Miss Massillonian finalists from the department were Diamond Haverstock, Hannah Gump, Alexis Markley, Victoria Menches, Mahaylee Neace, BreAnna Piorkowski, and Destiny Stevenson.
