Karoline Smith named Miss Massillonian

Massillon Tiger Swing Band’s own Karoline Smith was named Miss Massillonian at the WHS Honors Ceremony on May 16.

Miss Smith has been a four-year member of the MTSB on the majorette line and has served as a Squad Leader and Featured Majorette. She was also a member of the Jazz Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, and the Basketball Band. Karoline will be attending the University of Cincinnati in the fall, majoring in biology. She is the daughter of former Massillon band director Chris Smith, and Debbi Smith.

The Miss Massillonian award is a 70+ year tradition in the Massillon City Schools, starting in 1941.   The award, along with Outstanding Senior Boy, is based on academic performance, leadership ability, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work.  2018 Outstanding Senior Boy is Dylan Philpott.

The Instrumental Music department was well represented in this year’s competition. In addition to Miss Smith, other finalists for Miss Massillonian included Melissa Bomba, Morgan Crum, Bailey Jedel, Katherine Joseph, Elena Markley, and Leah Sorensen, while Frank Hill and Trent Wicks were among the finalists for Outstanding Senior Boy.
