Amanda Smith named Miss Massillonian

At the WHS Honors Ceremony on May 13, Massillon Tiger Swing Band’s own Amanda Smith was named Miss Massillonian.

Miss Smith has been a four-year member of the MTSB and has served as a Squad and Section Leader. She was also a member of the Jazz Orchestra, Pit Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, and the Basketball Band.  Upon graduation Smith will study at the Aultman College of Nursing with the goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.  A student in the WHS Career Tech department, she recently earned her state license in Cosmetology.

The Miss Massillonian award is a 70+ year tradition in the Massillon City Schools, starting in 1941*.   The award, along with Outstanding Senior Boy, is based on academic performance, leadership ability, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work.  This year’s Outstanding Senior Boy is Zachary Wolfe.

In addition to Miss Smith, other Instrumental Music students were finalists for the two awards. Kassandra Meyer, Haley Myer, and Emily Powell all were finalists for Miss Massillonian, while Brandon May and Ben Myers were finalists for Outstanding Senior Boy.
