      An Article for Testing

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth.

The Instrumental Music Boosters of the Massillon City Schools, Inc., is a non-profit organization that exists to provide financial support and assistance for activities of the Massillon Instrumental Music Department.

Membership consists of band parents and other persons interested in promoting instrumental music in the MCSD. If your child is involved in the band program, you are already a member! There are no dues or membership fees.

Meetings are held monthly during the school year in the WHS Band Room (Door 22). Typically, meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month, but please watch the Calendar or Facebook page for meeting announcements.

Band Boosters have a great time working together in supporting our kids. The Boosters staff the concession stands during football games and other band events, maintain and organize the band uniforms, act as chaperones to away games/events, and provide support to the band directors. Proceeds from the concession stands and other fundraising events goes directly back into the program in the form of new instruments, new uniforms, and subsidizing the cost of band travel, among other things.

Booster Officers are elected in the spring (typically May) for one-year terms, and take office on the first day of summer break.

Most importantly - have a great week, and BEAT McKINLEY!!!

      Did you know...?

Although Massillon Washington High School has had a band since 1914, it was in 1938 with the arrival of George "Red" Bird that the Massillon Tiger Swing Band was born.

"...it was the night of September 16, 1938 at the Massillon Field on Shriver Avenue Southeast that the world of football pageantry would change on all levels forever. It was Massillon's opening game of the season versus McKeesport, Pennsylvania. The Massillon band entered the end zone goal line stripe on a quick cadence single file from out of the South West corner of the stadium. At each crash of the cymbals another rank of eight bandsmen would break off from the straight line and head down field, eventually all 64 pieces were assembled on field in a block band formation ready to perform. As was reported in the newspaper of that night, 'The night air literally lit up with the bright new sound and quick cadences' of the Massillon Tiger Swing Band."

      Special Alumni Band Performance

Alumni mark your calendars! This season marks the 75th anniversary of the MTSB. At the September 20th football game the halftime show will be a celebration of this milestone. Alumni will combine with the current band. There will be a mandatory rehearsal Thursday, 9/19 from 5-8 on the band practice field behind the stadium.

We will be playing school songs plus "Big Noise from Winnetka" to honor Mr. Smith.

We want to pack the field with as many alumni as possible. Plan to be there! Details and music to follow.

      Blizzard Bags

When the Massillon City School District cancels school and deems it a "Blizzard Bag Day", students are expected to complete a practice journal for each day so designated.  Journals are due 2 weeks from the day of the cancellation.
